Move over Vampires. Move over Angels…The Valkyrie have arrived.

Bryn is a character who grabs hold of you from the first page. TG Ayer has created an unforgettable heroine in the young Bryn, a heroine that girls can look up to, women can respect, boys can think her kick-ass and men can want a woman that strong at their side. This is no fragile young girl. This is a warrior. But there is not only Bryn to love in this book. TG Ayer has created a cast of acutely drawn characters that will continue to live in your mind long after finishing their story. Greek mythology has been done a million times, Egyptian mythology countless times but this fresh spin on the little known but fascinating Norse mythology is a fresh breath of air in a genre where it is rare to find something new and original. TG Ayer has done this. This is fresh, original and entertaining. You will want to keep turning the pages of this phenomenal story and then you will want to read it again when you reach the end. You will want to be Bryn or be the men that love Bryn. Blending mythology, fantasy, poetic prose and the contemporary, TG Ayer has cemented her reputation as a true Storyteller in this magical debut book and a name to be watched in the world of YA fiction. I dare you to not want to read every one of this storyteller’s books. TG Ayer is a name you will remember. Bryn’s story is one you will not forget. Move over vampires. Move over angels. The Valkyrie have arrived.

...Showcasing White Hot talent in Indie Fiction

I am very proud to be introducing the Debut Publishing Release of my close friend and fellow author – TG Ayer. I have known Tee for about 2 years now and in that time she has become one of my closest friends both in writing and friendship. Both of us are immigrants to New Zealand from South Africa. Both of us call Auckland, New Zealand home. Both of us started out with a love of poetry. Both of us have a love of words and story. So it is with great pleasure that I have the honour of being the first kick-off blog stop on her whirring 2 week blog tour. But let’s get down to why Tee is here with me today. We are announcing the release of her Debut Book, the first book in a trilogy.

Dead Radiance

So Tee sat down, in the midst of a crazy pre-release week to answer some burning questions on Dead Radiance and what it is about this book and why this is the book you will want on your shelves, both electronic shelves and your proper book shelf. Personally, this is an incredible debut from a very talented author with a flair for language and emotion: I have been privileged to be there from the birth of the idea for Dead Radiance all the way through to the arrival into your – the reader’s – hands. This is a story that I fell in love with from the first moment I heard of it. I only wish I had come up with this story first. ;) It is that good a story that writers will wish it was their’s and readers will choose as their favourite tale.

TG Ayer, Author

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain crosseyed.

~~~~~~~~
1.) Congratulations on the 25/02 release of Dead Radiance. Tell us what is going through your mind right now on the eve of the full release?
Thanks Kim! Right now its a little surreal. My whole writing ‘career’ has been a bit of magic carpet ride. It’s been amazing fun writing Dead Radiance and before I knew it I had an offer and a publication date and now, a release
2.) Introduce us to Bryn, your main character. Who is she?
Bryn is a foster kid, (technically not an orphan as her mother abandoned her at a young age so she has a fair tonne of issues). She’s a loner although a part of her still longs to belong. She’s strong – certainly has to be strong running through the foster system. She’s not so confident in herself though and that’s what she needs to learn – to trust herself to make the right decisions, and to allow herself to trust others – that she’s isn’t always going to be let down. Essentially these are issues most teens grapple with (not to mention adults!)
3.) In my review of Dead Radiance, I stated “Move over vampires. Move over angels. Welcome the Valkyrie.”
     What a fresh subject to tackle. What drew you to the Valkyrie? Was it a new interest or had you always been interested in this subject?
Thanks Kim! That was a great review and I’m glad you loved DEAD RADIANCE.
I have always been fascinated by mythology. To be quite honest I have a soft spot for Egyptian mythology but as always a writer needs to delve deeper and I thought Norse- its not a subject that’s been touched too much. I do know Neil Gaiman features Norse mythologicalcharacters in some of his novels. And Carrie Jones’ NEED series takes a fresh look at Norse myths. I wanted to do something different and I hope it pleases my readers…
4.) Would you say this trilogy is aimed at girls or guys or both?
Definitely both guys and girls. There is romance, but it’s more about strength of character, about making life choices and knowing when it is okay to trust.
5.) Besides your main character, Bryn, who is your favourite character in the story and why?
It’s a toss-up actually. Joshua and Sigrun. I adore Joshua, he’s just adorable and so kind hearted and honest. Not a mean bone in his body and yet there is a silent strength in him. I was just as upset as Bryn when Joshua died, but there is hope of course.. I’d better stop there- if I say anything further it’d be a spoiler! I love Sigrun. She’s a Valkyrie, and despite having lived hundreds of years she is still very much an innocent. She’s a straightup kinda girl, thoroughly out of her depth with the modern world of Midgard(Earth). She’s quirky and funny and kind. Sigh… I’d love to have her as a friend.
6.) There’s love interests in this story. What guy can resist a girl with a sword and kick-ass attitude after all.
     Who do you want Bryn to get together with and why?
Well… Aidan is the bad-boy biker dude, and Bryn falls for him pretty quick. He’s a rebel, the dark and mysterious out-of-towner who spells trouble for Bryn’s heart. Who wouldn’t fall for him? But that doesn’t mean we should rule out other potentials love interests for Bryn. As in real life, nothing is ever set in stone. Love is sometimes fleeting and fitting only for that moment in life. People change, life changes. So yeah… one never knows… Will Aidan prove himself? Will he break through Bryn’s defenses and win her heart? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
7.) This book is the first book in a series. What more can we expect from the books 2 and 3?
Mmm… things just get worse… pretty much. With each book Bryn delves further into the Norse mythology, peeling away layers of lies and layers of truth. The journey in book 2 continues into Book 3, and gives her strength and courage to take on a huge battle, not only physically but mentally.
8.) So far do you have a favourite plot line from the series?
I love the way DEAD RADIANCE ends. So… I can’t really say why right now – the readers will have to find that out when they get to the end of the novel. And of course I love that when DEAD RADIANCE ends, there is more… I’m a series fan so am hoping my readers will be series readers too :)
9.) When can readers expect Book 2 to be released? I know it is cheeky, but any hints at what to expect from Book 2?
Book 2 is currently on the cards for end May. And yes Kim, very cheeky! All I can say is the reader will see more of the mythology, and get to know a few characters better. There are a few shocking twists, but what’s a novel without a shocking twist?
10.) If you could choose to be a character type from Norse Mythology which would you be and why?
I think I want to be Thor! And I don’t care that he is a boy either. I love the power he wields and yet he balances it with thoughtfulness and the essence of good. Of course he messes up now and then and thats good too. And I like the hammer!
11.) Can you tell us one secret about yourself that readers would be surprised to find out?
You know the Barbie movies? LOVE them. I just think they are so adorable! Secret okay- no telling!
12.) What is your guilty pleasure to indulge in when not writing?
I love to mess around with photoshop- usually using the excuse of inspirations covers to try and create my own. I love learning to create things and I get a real kick out of it when it looks at least passable. Don’t get me wrong- it’ll never be a profession, but I enjoy it too much.
13.) Can you tease us with an excerpt from Dead Radiance?
“A moonless night and a patch of oil were never meant to be friends. Not anywhere and certainly not within the dark embrace of Craven. A black and angry cloud hung over the town, permeating the spirit of the place, hiding behind closed doors and beneath masks of pleasantry. Paranoia? Maybe.
I blamed my jaded opinion on the ache in my heart. The first time I understood that the damned glow was synonymous with death, it happened to be coming from the first friend I’d ever made.”
14.) Where can readers buy Dead Radiance?
Dead Radiance is available at Amazon.com and all other Amazon marketplaces – both in paperback and e-book.
At Whitcoulls NZ (New Zealand) stores countrywide- in paperback.
15.) Where can people find you online?
