Welcome to my “Indie Building You into a Brand” blog – Dragonfly Scrolls.

Chasing Inspiration&Creativity on the Wings of "Dragonfly Scrolls"

Why Dragonfly Scrolls as a title?

The Dragonfly is my power animal. It is one of the few creatures that needs to be adept on both land, air and water. It is a creature that has taken adaptability to new heights. It is also a creature that lives for a very short time but lives life to the fullest. For me a Dragonfly is the perfect symbol for the modern author. We need to be adept in the craft of writing, building a brand through social media and marketing/promoting ourselves and our product – the books. The modern author holds the reins to their own success. Being Indie means holding your own pen, writing your own stories and controlling your own success. We need to be able to walk, swim, skim the surfaces and fly – like the Dragonfly.

You can still have your log cabin in the woods...just make sure you have a digital connection.

As much as I would love a world where as a writer I could lock myself away in a log cabin in the middle of a forest with just my muse and my stories, the modern reality is quite different. Whether a writer likes it or not, we live in a digital age. People of all generations and cultures connect digitally to get news, be entertained or connect with others. With the advent of Facebook, Twitter and tumblr not to mention Google+ and the myriad of other top social network platforms, the fan or reader can now connect with their celebrity or their writer of choice. To lock yourself away from this world and not learn to effectively use it does you as a writer more of a disservice than a service. We can still be in our log cabin but we need to get to grips with how to build our brand, find our readers and go about the business end of writing. Did you think as a creative you escaped the business end? Unfortunately not – if you want your readers and audience to take you seriously you need to take your Business (Writing) seriously. So with 10 years marketing and sales management experience this is my place where I share tips, tricks & tools & a-ha moments on the Business end of Writing – all thinks Marketing / Promotion / Social Media / Building You and Your product into not only a Marketable Brand but a Sellable Brand that readers will invest in. It really does not need to be that intimidating or scary. Knowledge is Power. Time to get savvy with the Business end of your manuscript.

I am a full time writer and this is my business. My writing and being able to sell myself and market myself is my business. I have no other income coming in. I have to put my money where my mouth is. But I do have 10 years of marketing and sales management know-how. There is that saying “write what you know”. While I am going to blog what I know about marketing and sales in this blog. Hopefully between my posts and my guest bloggers we can help shed some light on the business end of writing for you.

I will also be talking to Indie and Traditionally Published Writers on Writing / Marketing / Their Brand as well as reviewing their books on my bookshelf. I am passionate about promoting Indie Authors and Indie books. This is a new generation of very exciting writers emerging and they will change the face of publishing. Indie publishing is all about CHANGE and GROWTH. It is an exciting time in the publishing world.

  1. I read your interview with Alice Lynn. She is my mother. Great job. I love you blog and your pledge to be true to yourself and your dreams. I find your thoughts inspiring. Good luck and thanks for sharing your way to your true self. A path we all try to find or should!

    • Thank you Paige. Your comment really means a lot to me. I am glad you find inspiration here. You are lucky to have a mother who is a writer, that is inspirational itself. Thanks for visiting and thank you for commenting. :)

  2. Hello! I just found your blog and really like it. I can’t find your email address, though, so I’m going to post this request here. Would you be interested in doing an interview or something of that sort with me? My name is Q. Kelly, and I have a book that just came out. Check out qkelly.blogspot.com for more info.

  3. Hi Kim, I’ve visited both ‘Dragonfly Scrolls’ and ‘Wrestling the Muse’ today. What spectacular blogs! I love the posts, layout, imagery…well everything. Very much looking forward to following you and hearing more about your life as a full time writer :)
